When you work in apartment maintenance, you need to set yourself apart from the competition. This includes gaining knowledge and training that others in your field may not have. For this reason, you may want to earn certification to help land an apartment maintenance position.
Certificate for Apartment Maintenance Technicians
The Certificate for Apartment Maintenance Technicians (CAMT) program is accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), a nonprofit organization that administers and coordinates the United States voluntary standardization and conformity assessment system. Earning a certificate validates your knowledge, enhances your credibility and earns you respect in the property management industry. The program teaches you how to correctly process work orders to residents’ satisfaction and complete electrical, construction, mechanical, appliance, HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning), and lock and key services and repairs. You will also learn how to minimize personal and property damage while safely performing maintenance activities, comply with environmental and regulatory issues, and report and document maintenance activities in compliance with company policy and regulation.
HVAC certification shows your competencies in skills such as installing, repairing and maintaining HVAC units in residential spaces and analyzing air quality, humidity levels and temperature control mechanisms. HVAC certification also shows competency in understanding the fundamentals of heating and refrigeration systems and using a wide range of electronic parts such as fans, thermostats and ducts. Being certified increases the type of work you can perform as well as your earning potential. Also, some national HVAC certification is mandated by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to work with refrigerant recovery and recycling. You learn about ozone depletion, recovery cylinders for dangerous materials, leak repair requirements and other compliance rules that protect the environment.
